On my trips to Vietnam in 1998 and 1999, I was totally amazed
and surprised at the large number of galleries and artists in the
cities that I visited; Ho Chi Minh City, Hoi An and Hanoi. The diversity
of styles is quite overwhelming. They range from traditional representative
portraits and still lifes to Chinese-like calligraphic watercolors.
Other
images reveal different ethnic minorities of the north, their village
life and culture. Also evident are styles reminiscent of cubism,
abstract expressionism and influences from Russian and European
masters such as Picasso and Cezanne.
I have focused on artists who appeal to my personal tastes and whom
I want to represent in the United States. Their prices are affordable,
none of them have exhibited in this country before and in fostering
a new market for them, it is my intention to place their art in
private and public collections. I feel strongly that this distinctive
art will increase in value over the years.
